In another study recipients were asked to choose gifts online from an e-commerce website falling in the price range of $20 to $30 price range and others were asked to choose gifts randomly from the list for the person. Quite similar to the previous study it was revealed that gift recipients liked the gifts that they had requested were considered more thoughtful, meaningful and was more personalized compared to other gift givers which were chosen spontaneously.
It was also found that when the recipient had ask for a specific gift rather than laying down a list, the gift givers were more clear on the fact that they would like the gift that has been asked for more than the unrequested gift. Gift givers are more receptive to a particular suggestion than a gift.
Another study also showed that ‘money’ which is considered to the least expected gift is actually the one which is the most preferred one. The study shows that sometimes going that extra mile for the gift can have some ill effects because you are not listening to your customers and on the other hand they are giving gifts which the recipient wouldn’t like. It is also found that giving the recipients gifts which are expensive is not the easy way out.
In a nutshell, the study focuses primarily on the fact that it is better to gift the recipient what they are looking for rather than trying to mind read or guess what they would like.
